Sermon for the Wednesday after Laetare, 2024

Jesus doesn’t come to help you with a show might, as, perhaps, you would desire. Rather, He submits: He lets His enemies come and take Him, condemn Him, and crucify Him even, all, without flinching. Because, as it turns out,  that’s exactly how He makes good on His promise to help you: He must be delivered over, condemned, crucified, and put to death, all to redeem you with His Blood and, thereby, provide you with the help you truly need. He knew all along what He was doing, what He was permitting, what His almighty providence was orchestrating then, just as He knows today precisely what He’s doing. If His almighty power was at work at the beginning of His Passion and at His crucifixion and death, then surely, it must also be at work among you, even if it should appear as though things are not so.
