The Saviour, Christ the Lord, is born, yet He wasn’t born to bring temporal health and healing. Nor was He born to fill coffers or cupboards. He wasn’t born on this holy night to grant fleeting relief or temporary comforts; He came to do something far greater: to rescue you from sin. Almighty God has lowered Himself to become man; the Creator has wrapped Himself in His creation. For us sinners, He, the sinless One, came to give His life as our ransom, to make the atoning sacrifice for our sins and reconcile us back to Himself. Thus, in the fullness of time, this Babe would grow into a man, His swaddling clothes would give way to grave clothes, and His manger would give way to the Cross, from which His crucified body and shed blood would feed and nourish His people with forgiveness, life, and salvation. Rejoice, therefore, and be exceedingly glad, for unto you a Saviour—your Saviour—is born.
