Christ Jesus, Almighty God in the flesh, who promised to come and rescue and redeem mankind from the bondage and wages of sin, came in fulfillment of that promise. Thus He rode into Jerusalem: to suffer, die, and be buried -- for us and for our salvation. Knowing this, let us lift up our voices in the Sanctus, echoing the cry of the Palm Sunday multitudes, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” For Christ Jesus, the King who came into Jerusalem, draws near, even now, to be our Saviour, to save us from our sins. He comes that we might be His own and live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence, and blessedness. And so, while He shall come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, by His Word and Sacraments, He prepares us for His Advent then even as He prepares us for His Advent now.
