There are those who say they believe in Jesus, who call themselves Christians, who think they are Christians, and yet have little or no regard for what He says. How can they say or think that when Jesus makes it abundantly clear here, in this Gospel, that abiding—continuing—keeping His Word is requisite; it’s necessary. Whoever would call themself a Christian must, therefore, pay heed and count as the highest treasure the preaching of the Holy Gospel, the Word of our Lord, Christ Jesus. That is, first and foremost, what it means to be a Christian: to continue to abide in His Word, to keep it—hold it fast and dear—and, furthermore, to believe it—as did Abraham—despite all appearances to the contrary.
