Jesus went up into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil, and He fasted forty days and forty nights. And that ought to remind you of Moses, who, when he went up the mountain the second time to receive the Commandments, also fasted forty days and forty nights. Still, it was not Moses who led the Israelites across the Jordan River on dry ground into the promised land; it was Joshua. Joshua, or Jesus, in Greek; while the son of Nun led the children of Israel into the land of Canaan, even so, he prefigured the greater Joshua who would come after Moses, namely Jesus, the Son of God, the Father Almighty, who would lead you, His people, into the true and lasting Promised Land.
